You’d keep your Canadian citizenship under the current citizenship laws of Canada. You’d gain an Alberta passport too. Travel remains open — just like between EU countries today.
Pensions & Retirement 💰
Retired? No problem. The current Canadian Pension Plan is obligated by law to pay your CPP payments/drawings no matter where you live.
Still working? Your CPP contributions will roll into the Alberta Pension Plan, which could offer equal or better benefits with lower contribution rates. Quebec already does this. We can too.
Myth: “Alberta Can’t Leave Canada — It’s Not Legal.
Fact: Alberta Has the Legal Right to Leave.
The Law is Already in Place!
In 1998, the Supreme Court of Canada ruled that any province — including Alberta — has the right to pursue independence if there is a clear majority vote on a clear question. (That’s from the landmark Reference re Secession of Quebec case.)
In response, Parliament passed the Clarity Act in 2000, which confirms the exact same thing: If a majority of Albertans vote to leave, the federal government must negotiate our exit.
No new laws are needed. No legal barriers stand in the way.
We already have the constitutional path laid out.
We just have to choose it.
Myth: First Nations Have A Veto On Alberta's Independence
Fact: First Nations Have a Voice not a Veto!
Myth: Alberta Is Landlocked So It Can't Trade
Fact: Alberta already exports billions via pipelines, rail, and road. Independence won’t block trade — it strengthens our leverage to negotiate even better access.
Over 44 landlocked countries trade globally — including Switzerland, Austria, Mongolia, Czech Republic, and Hungary.
Alberta will negotiate open agreements with Canada, the U.S., and more. Our oil, food, and minerals give us massive leverage. We would also enjoy a mutually tariff free relationship with the United States.
Myth: Support For Independence Is Fringe
Fact: Polls regularly show 38 ‒ 45% support, with majority support in rural Alberta. That’s more than most federal parties get during elections!

Day 1 of Independence
An interim constitution would take effect (currently in draft) outlining the laws and structure Albertans will abide and live by.
This foundational document will outline the laws, rights, and governance structures that Albertans would live under during the transition. Much of it mirrors existing frameworks — with key improvements designed to better reflect Alberta’s needs and values.
The draft Interim Constitution will be released soon for public discussion.

We’re Paying a Massive Price
To Get Little Back.
Every year, Alberta families struggle under rising costs, and decaying futures, while up to $27 billion of our wealth is sent away to Ottawa.
That’s money we could be investing right here — in our hospitals, schools, infrastructure, and communities.
Alberta sends $15 ‒ 27 billion more to Ottawa every year than we get back.
Since 1960, that’s over $650 billion — taken from our communities and sent elsewhere.
Meanwhile, Alberta holds just 6 out of 105 Senate seats (5.7%) — Ontario and Quebec each hold 24 (45.8% total!), despite us paying way more than our share.
In the House of Commons, Alberta gets 10% of the seats....while Ontario and Quebec (58.8%) make the rules.
On top of that, Ottawa’s laws like Bill C‒69, carbon taxes, and pipeline bans have cost us over $678 billion in lost opportunities.
We pay the most. But we’re heard the least.
Too much is taken. Too little is returned.
And what do we get back?
A broken deal where we have minimal representation, crippling federal laws, and a decaying economy blocked at every turn.
Our families are hurting while others benefit from our sacrifice.
It’s not just unfair. It’s unsustainable.
and we’re drifting towards a disastrous future unless we change course.
